The Behavioral Survey is our scientifically validated career exploration and discovery tool that measures over 100 coachable and changeable social-emotional learning (SEL) behaviors.
The survey is in overwhelming alignment with the Ten Principles for Building a High-Quality System of Assessments.
Principle 1: Capture the array of knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed for college and career readiness.
Principle 1 is exactly what MyActionPath does. The Behavioral Survey provides comprehensive results on more than 100 attributes related to long-term job success. It measures social-emotional and professional skills such as initiative, interpersonal relating, problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, productivity, and grit.
Principle 2: Balance assessment of learning with assessment for and as learning through a comprehensive set of tasks and measures.
Upon surveying, students immediately receive insights about several of their top qualities, which can inform and inspire their future educational and/or career paths.
Principle 3: Advance equity and be inclusive of and accessible to all students.
In addition to simplified English, the survey can be taken in five other languages and includes an audible version to accommodate students of differing abilities.
Principle 4: Build educator and school capacity for designing and using assessments.
MyActionPath provides educator training on how to generate student buy-in, administer the survey, plus access and interpret student data.
Principle 5: Align assessments to support learning and avoid duplicated testing.
The Behavioral Survey replicates all major non-cognitive measures, such as Emotional Intelligence (Daniel Goleman), Grit (Angela Duckworth), Character Strengths & Virtues (Seligman), Needs Theory (Henry Murray), Transactional Analysis (Eric Berne), and Thinking Styles (George Welsh), eliminating the need for repeated assessment.
Principle 6: Convey clear, coherent, and continuous data on student learning.
Measures verify changeable behaviors and track growth over time, which allows students to see and celebrate progress throughout the year(s). The MyActionPath system saves results from each assessment to support the analysis of past and current surveys. Dashboards provide unique interfaces and content for each type of user, including students, teachers, and administrators. User-specific insights, tips, and questions lend themselves to discussions and access to potential career paths. Students’ dashboards display their top four qualities and provide access to 300 online SEL micro-lessons prioritized based on their specific development needs.
Principle 7: Include meaningful, ongoing input and collaboration from local communities and diverse stakeholders in the development and continuous improvement of the system.
Principle 7 requires a holistic examination of a person’s or an organization’s system of assessments. Collectively, we're committed to adjusting the way we assess ourselves based on new information and experiences, doing so through the valuable feedback of our clients, partners, and stakeholders.
Principle 8: Encourage cycles of review, calibration, and continuous improvement of assessments individually and as a collective system.
The Behavioral Survey is under continual review and improvement.

Principle 9: Employ high standards of coherence, validity, reliability, and fairness.
The Behavioral Survey has been authenticated as a reliable, valid, accurate, and non-discriminatory instrument. This testing is based on Dr. Harrison Gough’s Adjective Check List (ACL). Drawn from an initial sample size of 9,382 individuals and normalized over 15 years, MyActionPath also produced a document detailing the reliability and validity of the ACL based on the current normative sample, points of application, and EEOC compliance.
Principle 10: Protect data privacy
Data is protected and secure. The Behavioral Survey responses are stored separately from user data and encrypted while at rest.
